If foreign matters( Such as germs) intrude into a human body, neutrophil shuts them and releases bactericidal peptides and hydrolytic enzymes from granules toward the food vacuoles of the foreign matters. On the other hand, super oxide production systems of the neutrophil membranes are activated, and a great amount of O2 change to O2-. O2 changes non-enzymatically to H2O2, and H2O2 is further changed to halogenated acid, MPO released from granules.
